Mark another one on the calendar... Anna has her first cold. While the day started out calmly enough (she was stuffy but didn't seem to complain too much), she seems to have officially moved on to miserable. I, of course, wish babies could blow their noses; this would make things so much easier. She hates the snot sucker and isn't a big fan of tissues either. Every time we try to make it easier for her to breathe, she starts crying. As you all know, crying produces snot, so the problem is only compounded by her tears.
At least she's not alone in her misery - I'm sick as well. We figure it's only a matter of time before Arron comes down with this. Guess any thoughts of having a few friends over for the Super Bowl are out.
Strangely enough, while we can see that she's miserable, Anna is still quick with a smile.

Big Weekend
We had a big weekend here. Not only did Anna hit the 3 month mark just before the weekend started (I don't know who surprises me more for surviving this first quarter, Anna or us!), but Gramma and Grampa came to visit and we had our first real snowfall!!
Anna was happy to see her grandparents - but then again, she's happy to see anyone who will give her a little attention as she loves to smile and laugh. I was happy to see them because they helped take down the Christmas tree. Arron was starting to think that it would be up all summer. I almost had him convinced that if we left it up, it would be less work for next Christmas.
And we've finally gotten our first real snowfall of the winter. It's been strange this winter, we're so close to Lake Michigan, as is all of Chicagoland, but we haven't even gotten any lake effect snow (lake effect snow never seems to be real snow, even though it gives us the best accumulation). This morning that all changed. So far we've gotten a couple of inches and it's started coming down again. Here's Anna and I checking it out through the front window.
That meant that Gramma and Grampa wanted to leave sooner than planned. 24 hours after they arrived, they were heading back home. We were sad, but glad that they came out. Here they are driving by the house.
With the snowfall picking up again, it's shaping up to be a good day to snuggle up under a blanket, drink some Chai tea, and maybe even watch the Bears game. It's not the Cubs, but you should still root for the hometown team.

Anna and the cats
We have two cats. Jack is old and grumpy. He gets pills twice a day to keep him from pulling out his fur. Ollie is younger, fat and, well, a little dim-witted. Jack can push open doors to get to where he wants to go. In the same situation, Ollie just sits and looks at the door.
However, many times we find Ollie in it.
Whenever the pack 'n play is set up, he's fascinated by it. A lot of times, we have to boot him out of it, so Anna can use it.
She has a Bumbo chair that she loves to sit in. While Ollie hasn't tried to sit in it (yet) I did catch him getting ready to chew on it one day. Now when she's not sitting it, we have to hide it under a blanket or in the box.
He can't get into her Snugli, but he has spent many hours napping on top of it.
Over the weekend, we discovered him sleeping in her crib. We figure he got up there by climbing up on the rocking chair and jumping from the arm of said chair. How he ever managed to heave his body over the expanse between the chair and the bed is beyond me. Remember, he's a fat cat...
It's going to be a mess if he ever tries to take over her swing...

My kiddo says the darnest things
Okay, Anna's not really talking yet, but stay tuned... As these gems come up, I'll make sure to pass them along.
